News About China
There are arguments for and against Canada trading with China. The foremost benefit is China’s large population and buying power – retailers, bankers, insurers and natural resource providers drool at the thought of having the Chinese as clients and customers. The foremost downside is the fundamental difference in China’s political and social structure. Being communist, the state-owned ideology is naturally at odds to a society that favours democracy.
However, for the most part, Canadians have a socialist bend and since China seems open to “improvement” re: human and animal rights abuses, Canadians appear more than willing to do business with China. The question is, at what cost?
Should Canadians allow an oil sands pipeline to stretch across the Rockies from Alberta to a marine harbour in BC? Should that harbour regularly ship oil and gas to China? Should BC residents take the risk of coastal spills so that corporations can profit? See Oil & Gas News - Northern Gateway.
Canada has already allowed foreign-owned companies to operate in Canada (including Wal-mart (US), Toyota (Japan), Shell (Holland), British Petroleum (England), Labatt (Belgium)). As well, Canada has already allowed foreign ownership of (formerly) Canadian companies (including MacMillan Bloedel, Eaton’s (now defunct), Seagram, Corel, Canadian Pacific Hotels, Dofasco, Noranda, Stelco, Alcan). Should Canadians allow China to own Canadian companies? It was recently approved that China could take over Nexen Inc. oil and gas producer in Alberta (article) although Prime Minister Harper said it was a unique situation. Purchase of construction giant AECON was blocked on national security grounds (article).
China has already been busy investing in Canadian resources and real estate:
- China Longyuan Power Corporation owns Dufferin Wind Power in Melancthon Township, Dufferin County. (article)

It is logical to think that trading with China will force concessions from both sides.
Environment
It is interesting to note that since the 2008 Summer Olympics were held in Beijing, China, the Chinese government and people have realized the benefits of a smog free, clean environment. They have embraced that goal with a vengeance and within 10 years have become a world leader in renewable energy and electric vehicles. (AO - Intro to Renewables)
National Security
There are definite political ties between China and Canada. We use Chinese communications network technology (Huawei). We host Chinese soldiers to teach them how to fight in Canadian weather conditions. Chinese are buying oil fields in Alberta and wind farms in Shelburne, ON. Businessmen drool at the idea of a 1.5 billion person consumer market. China had a lead role in the COVID-19 “global pandemic”. China is allowed to maintain police forces in Canada. How much of ourselves as Canadians are we willing to give up to participate in the Chinese market?
COVID-19 Connection
The COVID-19 “global pandemic” connection:
- China has a big influence on the World Health Organization (WHO).
- The world followed the Chinese model for COVID-19 masking and lockdown.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks, hand sanitizer, body bags, etc. are manufactured in China.
- The jabs are designed based on genome sequences from Chinese scientists.
- SARS-CoV-2 is a genetically modified virus sourced to Wuhan, after China had provided gain of function genetic manipulation services to the USA post President Obama making such science illegal in the USA. (AO COVID-19 Origin Story)
- Wuhan enabled 5G in October 2019. People from 5G-enabled areas showed the first COVID-19 symptoms. Additionally, 5G infrastructure continued to be rolled-out during pandemic lockdowns. (AO News – 5G & IOT/IOB)
- China manufactures and sells vaxx ingredients Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and SM-102 (AO News – Vax Technology & Ingredients)
- China’s Thousand Talents Program attracted nanotechnology expert Charles Lieber (see APPENDIX B & C)
