Graphene / Graphene Oxide

Graphene (Wikipedia) is exfoliated from graphite, which is a natural form of carbon. In other words, graphene is a unique form or “allotrope” of carbon.

Oxidized graphene (graphene that has been combined with oxygen resulting in the loss of electrons) known as Graphene Oxide (GO) is a nanomaterial made up of a single layer of carbon atoms.

Graphene oxide (GO) has many interesting and possibly useful characteristics. It is light, transparent, flexible, incredibly strong, an excellent conductor of heat and electricity and has interesting light absorption abilities. It is hydrophilic (attracted to water) and has good dispersibility in an aqueous environment. GO shows excellent DNA absorption properties and biocompatibility. Graphene oxide is a known toxic substance. Previous studies have shown that graphene-based materials like graphene oxide can cause dose-dependent toxicity. It can damage the liver and the kidneys, spur on the formation of granulomas in the lungs, decrease cell viability and trigger cell apoptosis or pre-programmed cell death. "Since the discovery of graphene oxide in coronavirus vaccines, all the findings and the discovery made only confirm its presence (Campra 2021).
