Let’s face it. Oil and gas have made an incredible contribution to our lives. We moved from horses to wheels to wings thanks to fossil fuels. In addition to transportation, fossil fuels have heavy industrial, commercial, residential, and agricultural uses. However, there have been costs. Areas of our planet have been rendered uninhabitable due to extraction and spills of fossil fuels. Some water has been left undrinkable; air made harder to breathe. Extraction of fossil fuels is taking a toll on our health and quality of life.
Plus, fossil fuels are a non-renewable natural resource. We have extracted most of the easily obtained sources and are now working on the difficult and expensive sources (see fracking).
Today we have the intelligence and foresight to know that we must move to a renewable, less environmentally expensive, form of energy. The search is on and controversial as any significant change must be.
