Water Quality                                 

 

For the most part aggregate pits and quarries use closed loop water systems where water is kept in ponds and reused.  The main use for water is washing the aggregate (sand, stone), dust reduction, and washing equipment. 

 

Quarries and pits also pump water if the aggregate is sourced below the water table.

 

As a result, problems can occur to the local water table or discharge streams.
