Proposal in Clearview Township, Simcoe County

wpd Canada Inc.’s subsidiary wpd Fairview Wind Incorporated has proposed the Fairview Wind Farm project  -- eight (8) industrial wind turbines (150m / 500 ft / 50-storeys tall) north of Creemore / west of Stayner / east of Duntroon, north and south of County Road 91.  The Class 4 wind facility would have a maximum installed contract nameplate capacity of 16.4MW (FIT contract maximum of 18.4MW).

The proposed site is close to a local aerodrome as well as to the Collingwood Regional Airport, which might put planes at risk through physical obstacles and turbulence.   (Airports and aerodromes fall under federal jurisdiction.)

In 2012 neighbours of the proposed site, 15 plaintiffs, launched a lawsuit citing property value decreases.  At the same time the owner of the aerodrome launched a lawsuit stating that the wind farm would make the airstrip unsafe.

Opponents raise further concerns about potential health risks, noise levels (39.2 decibels – only .8 below threshold), enjoyment of property, threats to migratory birds and bats, and unknown impacts of turbines on ground-level climates.

Approval Process:

Zoning by-law amendment if applicable

Official plan amendment if applicable

Conservation Authority approval if applicable
